The Contracting Committee focus on issues relevant to the Road Marking Industry; with particular emphasis on;

Government liaison

Responding to consultation, lobbying for legislation changes on issues impacting on industry, promoting the collective interests of the road marking sector.

Quality workmanship

Developing, in partnership Quality Management systems such as Sector Scheme No. 7, Identifying new standards for road marking operations.

Training Standards

Developing and implementing training standards for quality and health & safety. Working with relevant third parties such as Highways Agency, CITB and client side organisations to develop best practice.

RSMA publications

Work with other RSMA Committees and Working Groups to help develop the range of RSMA industry focussed publications, enhancing the value of RSMA membership and promoting best practice.

Defend member’s interests

The Committee is actively involved in supporting member’s collective interests and as appropriate support individual members.

Details of and links to some of the main outputs from the Committee’s activities are shown below:

Sector Scheme 7, ("Sector Schemes for Quality Management in Highways Works, Scheme 7, Sector Scheme Document for the Application of Road Marking Materials and Road Studs to Road Surfaces") describes the Quality Management System requirements for road marking suppliers and interprets BSEN ISO 9002 in relation to road markings.

The Contracting Committee lead the development of StanSpec, the Standard Specification Document for road markings through working with client side representatives. This partnership approach played a pivotal role in the successful, day-to-day use of StanSpec, by specifying authorities.

The RSMA is an accredited NVQ assessment centre and has worked closely in the development of CSCS cards, indicating that operatives have attained an NVQ Level 2 in Pavement Markings. All Road Marking Operatives are required to have CSCS Cards by 2006.

The Contracting Committee advises the RSMA Training Brokerage Service, assisting with the development of operative and assessor training regimes, promoting quality and safer working practices throughout the industry.
