The Marketing Committees primary function is to communicate safety and related industry issues to internal and external organisations with a view to a contribution to aid the Government casualty reduction targets for 2010.

The key objective of the Marketing Committee is to increase the awareness and understanding of the safety benefits of road markings

A number of initiatives have taken this key objective forward including:

  • The annual publication of ‘Top Marks’, the industry magazine; featuring articles such as Quality Assurance issues, European road marking standards and RSMA/client partnership drives. The publication is at the forefront of education and promotion of safety within the UK road marking industry aimed at the highway professional.

  • Since November 1998 an Annual Conference for the Industry, has been held to assist Road Marking and Main Contractors, Local Authorities, Highway Agency Representatives and other interested parties, understand the changes in specifications and policies within the industry.

  • The Annual National Ecodyn Road Marking Inspection "Up to the Mark?" covers a representative sample of road markings of nearly 1000km of roads in England and Scotland, in order to provide an accurate indication of the on going condition of road markings across the country.

  • The ‘Best Value’ report, which illustrates how road markings deliver road safety in an economical, effective and efficient manner.

  • The ‘Cosmetic or Crucial?’ report, which looks at the relationship between well-maintained road markings, road safety and accident related cost reduction.

  • Why Markings? - A comprehensive Best Practice guide to the use of Road Markings in the UK.

The guide covers the historical development of road markings, national standards, specifications, regulations, products available, selection of suitable approved products, Audit PFI’s (Private Finance Initiative), road safety as well as covering the legal responsibilities of Central and Local Government, the design and various studies into the performance of Road Markings.
