NVQ’s are now the main qualification for road marking operatives, with more than 850 alone registered for the award
with the RSMA Assessment Centre. The level of NVQ Registrations is primarily due to the CSCS requirement for operatives
to either be registered for or hold an NVQ by 2006.
Training is now focused on the competency of the operative, from 2006 tenders and specifications will only accept
competence based qualifications, i.e. NVQ’s in conjunction with the nationally recognised CSCS card, including contracts
let under the RSMA StanSpec documentation.
The main purpose of the CSCS is to help workers prove they are competent to do their job, while improving site safety,
raising health and safety standards and encouraging companies to use skilled workers. CSCS cards list the holder’s
qualifications and are valid for either 3 or 5 years.
The aim of all this investment is a competent workforce, improved productivity, quality and site safety,
creating a "win, win" environment for Contractor, Client and Operative!
